When Shabbat falls coincides with a festival or Chol HaMoed the following is recited quietly, one begins to recite out load again with the blessing of the wine of the Kiddush.

A Psalm by David. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He revives my soul; He directs me in paths of righteousness for the sake of His Name. Even if I will walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staffthey will comfort me. You will prepare a table for me before my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; my cup is full. Only goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the House of the Lord for many long years. 1

2 come to join Him in the meal. 3

And the Children of Israel shall observe the Shabbat, establishing the Shabbat throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. It is a sign between Me and the children of Israel for all time, for in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He ceased from work and rested. 4

If you restrain your feet because of the Shabbat from attending to your affairs on My holy day, and you call the Shabbat, delight, the day made holy by the Lord, hon- ored, and you honor it by not following your customary ways, refraining from pursuing your affairs and from speak- ing profane things, then you shall delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the high places of the earth, and I will nourish you with the heritage of Jacob your father; thus the mouth of the Lord has spoken. 5

This is the meal of the holy Ancient One. 1

One should take the Kiddush cup with their right hand and pass it to the left hand; they should then with their left hand lower the cup into the flat and open palm of their right hand; one should then close their fingers faced upwards to hug the base of the cup. The cup should be held approximately 9 inches above the table while the entire Kiddush is recited. Those listening should respond “אָמֵן" to the blessings.

Remember the Shabbat day to sanctify it. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is Shabbat for the Lord your God; you shall not do any workyou, your son or your daughter, your man- servant or your maidservant, or your cattle, or the stranger within your gates. For [in] six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day

I Therefore the Lord blessed the Shabbat day and made it holy. 2

verse, who creates the fruit of the vine. (Amen)

If not saying Kiddush on wine or grape juice, one may say over bread:

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth. (Amen)

On wine or grape juice:

who creates the fruit of the vine.

When Shabbat coincides with Chol HaMoed Sukkot, immediately after saying Kiddush in the Sukkah, one should add the following blessing. When saying the words “לֵישֵׁב בַּסֻּכָּה” one should briefly gaze upon the covering of the Sukkah:

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to dwell in the sukkah. (Amen)

The wine should be distributed to each person listening, the person who recited the Kiddush should be seated and drink at least 2 ounces of the remaining wine. All people present should wash their hands in the ritual manner. One should take a cup and fill it with water, lift it with the right hand, pass it to their left hand and pour the water over the right hand up to the wrist three times. The cup should then be passed to the left hand and poured over the right three times. One should then recite:

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe,

who has sanctified us with His commandments,

and commanded us concerning the washing of the hands.

After washing one should abstain from any unnecessary talking until after the eating of the bread. The head of the family should say a blessing over two whole loaves of bead, slice it, dip in in salt and distribute a piece to each person; each individual should recite the blessing over the bread themselves before eating. It is customary to sing the following table hymn following the fish course of the meal:

Rejoice, O reapers of the Field [the masters of Torah], speaking words sweet as honey; utter your words before the Master of the worlds, that He reveal the inner meanings.

Before the Master of all worlds, in words concealed, may you reveal new insights; to adorn the table with lofty and precious mysteries that are profound and not openly disclosed.

To deck the table with the deep secrets that may not be expressed; and these words shall become firmaments above.

And these very words become a heaven on high, where the holy Shechinah dwells, and a new beauty and grace.

May abundance increase and rise higher still, above the ranks of the supernal levels; and may that which was apart be reunited, that all be made one.

I will arrange the meal of the morning of the Shabbat day, and I will invite to it the Holy Ancient One.

May His light shine upon it, in the great Kiddush and over the goodly wine that gladdens the soul.

May He send to us His radiance, and may we behold His glory; may He reveal to us the words that are spoken in secret.

May He disclose to us the hidden reasons of the twelve loaves of bread, which are a symbol of the letters of His Name and of the deepest mysteries.

Joined in the supernal bond is She [Malchut], that we may increase our strength and raise our prayers on high.
