Counting of the Omer

Counting of the Omer is part of the Sefirat HaOmer service of the traditional weekday siddur. The full Hebrew text with English translation appears below; open it in the free interactive siddur to follow along.

The Omer is counted each night from the second night of Pesach until the night before Shavuot, at nightfall after the evening prayer. Have in mind the count for tonight, one word of Ana BeKoach, one word of the psalm May God be gracious to us, and one letter of the verse Yismechu.

בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה יְיָ אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ מֶֽלֶךְ הָעוֹלָם אֲשֶׁר קִדְּשָֽׁנוּ בְּמִצְוֹתָיו וְצִוָּֽנוּ עַל סְפִירַת הָעֹֽמֶר:

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us concerning the counting of the Omer.

The eve of the 16th of Nissan.

הַיּוֹם יוֹם אֶחָד לָעֹֽמֶר:

Today is one day of the Omer.

The eve of the 17th of Nissan.

הַיּוֹם שְׁנֵי יָמִים לָעֹֽמֶר:

Today is two days of the Omer.

Today is three days of the Omer.

הָרַחֲמָן הוּא יַחֲזִיר לָנוּ עֲבוֹדַת בֵּית הַמִּקְדָּשׁ לִמְקוֹמָה,

May the Merciful One restore unto us the service of the Bet Hamikdash to its place,

בִּמְהֵרָה בְּיָמֵֽינוּ.

speedily in our days;

אָמֵן סֶֽלָה:

Amen, Selah.

לַמְנַצֵּֽחַ בִּנְגִינוֹת מִזְמוֹר שִׁיר:

For the choirmaster, a song with instrumental music, a psalm.

אֱלֹהִים יְחָנֵּֽנוּ וִיבָרְכֵֽנוּ יָאֵר פָּנָיו אִתָּֽנוּ סֶֽלָה:

May God be gracious to us and bless us, may He make His countenance shine upon us forever,

לָדַֽעַת בָּאָֽרֶץ דַּרְכֶּֽךָ בְּכָל־גּוֹיִם יְשׁוּעָתֶֽךָ:

that Your way be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.

יוֹדֽוּךָ עַמִּים אֱלֹהִים יוֹדֽוּךָ עַמִּים כֻּלָּם:

The nations will extol You, O God; all the nations will extol You.

יִשְׂמְחוּ וִירַנְּנוּ לְאֻמִּים כִּי־תִשְׁפּוֹט עַמִּים מִישׁוֹר וּלְאֻמִּים בָּאָֽרֶץ תַּנְחֵם סֶֽלָה:

The nations will rejoice and sing for joy, for You will judge the peoples justly and guide the nations on earth forever.

יוֹדֽוּךָ עַמִּים אֱלֹהִים יוֹדֽוּךָ עַמִּים כֻּלָּם:

The peoples will extol You, O God; all the peoples will extol You,

אֶֽרֶץ נָתְנָה יְבוּלָהּ יְבָרְכֵֽנוּ אֱלֹהִים אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ:

for the earth will have yielded its produce, and God, our God, will bless us.

יְבָרְכֵֽנוּ אֱלֹהִים וְיִירְאוּ אוֹתוֹ כָּל־אַפְסֵי־אָֽרֶץ:

God will bless us; and all, from the furthest corners of the earth, shall fear Him.

While reciting Ana BeKoach, look at—or visualize—the Divine Names formed by the acronyms of the words (in parentheses), but do not say them.

אָֽנָּא, בְּכֹֽחַ גְּדֻלַּת יְמִינְךָ, תַּתִּיר צְרוּרָה. (אב״ג ית״ץ)

We implore You, by the great power of Your right hand, release the captive.

קַבֵּל רִנַּת עַמְּךָ, שַׂגְּבֵֽנוּ, טַהֲרֵֽנוּ נוֹרָא. (קר״ע שט״ן)

Accept the prayer of Your people; strengthen us, purify us, Awesome One.

נָא גִבּוֹר, דּוֹרְשֵׁי יִחוּדְךָ כְּבָבַת שָׁמְרֵם. (נג״ד יכ״ש)

Mighty One, we beseech You, guard as the apple of the eye those who seek Your Oneness.

בָּרְכֵם טַהֲרֵם, רַחֲמֵי צִדְקָתְךָ תָּמִיד גָּמְלֵם. (בט״ר צת״ג)

Bless them, cleanse them; bestow upon them forever Your merciful righteousness.

חֲסִין קָדוֹשׁ, בְּרוֹב טוּבְךָ נַהֵל עֲדָתֶֽךָ. (חק״ב טנ״ע)

Powerful, Holy One, in Your abounding goodness, guide Your congregation.

יָחִיד גֵּאֶה לְעַמְּךָ פְּנֵה, זוֹכְרֵי קְדֻשָּׁתֶֽךָ. (יג״ל פז״ק)

Only and Exalted One, turn to Your people who are mindful of Your holiness.

שַׁוְעָתֵֽנוּ קַבֵּל וּשְׁמַע צַעֲקָתֵֽנוּ, יוֹדֵֽעַ תַּעֲלוּמוֹת. (שק״ו צי״ת)

Accept our supplication and hear our cry, You who knows secret thoughts.

בָּרוּךְ שֵׁם כְּבוֹד מַלְכוּתוֹ לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד:

Blessed be the name of the glory of His kingdom forever and ever.
